4)  Track your results, that way you can repeat what works for you and then you are able to expand your advertising from that point.

5)  Capture Attention and Create Interest with a powerful Bold Headline in your ad! The Headline should describe the benefit of the product or service you are selling. "What's in it for them? Make them want to read on!!" Give the reader reasons! Make them curious!  The #1 biggest mistake advertisers make is attempting to "make the sale" in the ad. You are not trying to make a sale based on your classified ad alone. You are using your classified ad as a lead generator to prompt or entice prospects to request more information. There is no way you can give a proper presentation in only a few words.

6)  When choosing an area or market to place your classified ad think of these things in addition to the price for advertising: What is my target audience, who am I trying to reach?  What are the demographics (age range of readers, target audience etc..) of the paper or magazine I am choosing?  What is the total circulation of the paper or magazine?  These questions will help you make the most of your advertising campaign and get the best results.

7)  Free Community vs. paid daily papers: Free community papers are direct mailed to people in the community, are free of charge, contain news, events, coupons etc.  61% of community newspaper readers DO NOT subscribe to daily papers. People on average keep community newspapers longer than daily papers.  People usually DO NOT read their daily paper, instead looking at it for a specific interest, such as a birth or wedding announcement etc...
